David Cohen
Founder & Limited PartnerDavid Cohen is a private investor and philanthropist. David is a cofounder of Enza Capital and is an active Investment Committee member.
David Cohen runs a family-office investment fund that is focused on both public and private investments around the world. He also runs a charitable trust that is focused on philanthropy in Africa with a broad mandate that includes impact and job creation.
He was a cofounder of Noonday Asset Management and a partner at Farallon Capital following time at Goldman Sachs. He is an active investor in both private and public markets and runs Ezrah, a charitable foundation focused on creating impact in Africa. He was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University where he graduated with a M.Sc. in Development Economics – he studied there with John Lazar. He was born and raised in South Africa and now resides in Delray Beach, FLA.
David is a member of the Limited Partner Advisory Committee, the Investment Committee, and is actively involved in setting the strategy of Enza Capital. David was the largest investor in Enza Capital LP (Fund I) and increased his commitment size with an anchor investment in Enza Capital LP II.
John Lazar
Founder & General PartnerJohn is a software engineer and business leader who is focused on combining technology and entrepreneurship to generate lasting positive impact. He sits as a Director on the boards of multiple tech companies across Africa, and is the cofounder, General Partner, and a Limited Partner at Enza Capital.
John is a renowned angel investor with deep experience building and managing businesses. He was previously CEO and Chairman of Metaswitch Networks, which raised money from Fransisco Partners and Sequoia Capital, and subsequently sold to Microsoft in 2020. John is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering where he helped establish and is a Judge for the Africa Prize, and he is Chairman of both the Raspberry Pi Foundation and What3Words in the UK. John received a CBE for his contribution to technology in the UK.
John works closely with the team as an active General Partner (2-3 days per week) and brings a refined edge to diligence and portfolio support on all things technology and team. John is also an active member of the Investment Committee. John committed capital Enza Capital LP and is committing capital again to Fund II – he is a General Partner committed for the life of the fund.
Mike Mompi
Founder & Managing PartnerMike is a coFounder and Managing Partner at Enza Capital. He is an experienced venture investor and entrepreneur focused on high-growth technology businesses solving problems across Africa. Mike has worked across 4 continents and sits as a Director on the boards of multiple venture-backed technology companies across East, West, and South Africa.
Prior to launching Enza Mike was an Investor at the Global Innovation Fund where he focused on venture investing in African tech companies. Mike previously built and ran the early-stage investment business at ClearlySo, a venture-backed Impact Investment Bank in London, and he is a coFounder of the Accra Angel Network. Mike has broad entrepreneurial experience as an angel-backed coFounder of a youth-focused online-banking platform in the UK, a coFounder of the UK office of the now global MakeSense, and the Founder of two services business while in University. In addition to venture capital Mike has public equity experience as a buy-side investor at a $4bn+ Asset Management firm within Credit Agricole in France.
Mike holds degrees in Economics and Communications from the University of California, Davis. He is an avid tennis player, skier, sailor, and painter. Mike is a Trustee at the Treebeard Trust, a social investor that supports transformational initiatives creating a fairer society, and he is a Trustee and co-founder of the Black Global Trust.
Nzwisisa Chidembo
CTO in ResidenceNzwisisa is a technologist who has built and scaled +40 tech-enabled startups across the African continent. He is the Founder & CEO of Riskbloq a blockchain analytics platform and CTO in Residence at Enza Capital. Nzwisisa has more than 18 years of experience across various industries such as venture capital, telecommunications, e-commerce, biotechnology, artificial intelligence and retail. He is passionate about Africa, startups, blockchain technology, and people.
Nzwisisa is an internationally published author and was nominated as a Global Young ICT Leader in 2017 by the International Telecommunications Union.
